We would like to announce the 2025 Giovanni Folcarelli Memorial Scholarship Winners

Federal money for programs and services that help millions of vulnerable Americans and employ many AFSCME members could be in jeopardy next year.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand new Indigenous Veterans Memorial. Charles “Snow Bear” Smith, Jr.

A message from Mary B. Riley, President of the Scott London/Chris Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund:

 This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Scott London/Chris Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund!  The main fundraiser is an annual golf tournament held on the first Monday of August.  This was the 18th year that the tournament was held at the Cranston Country Club and a total of six $4,000 scholarships were awarded. 

As the holiday season approaches RI Council 94 wants to encourage all members to purchase Union Made Goods and Services.  It is important that we continue to support our Union Brothers and Sisters across the State.  For a detailed Directory of Union Goods and Services throughout Rhode Island please

The Local 528 scholarship awards for the Fall 2019 semester are now available!  This year there are a total of six $500.00 awards.  There will be an award for High School Seniors handed out in May 2020 for use in the Fall 2020 semester. 

Members of RI Council 94 got to enjoy a day at McCoy Stadium back on June 9, 2019. The festivities of the day included a BBQ and a chance for all the children in attendance to run the bases!

Tonight, Thursday August, 8, 2019, President Steve Shears of Local 314 and Attorney/Sr. Staff Representative Nicole Barnard will be testifying at the meeting of the House Oversight Committee at the Rhode Island State House.  Despite two years of hard work,  only minimal improvements in security have been implemented at the Rhode Island Training School and safety is still a major concern.

RI Council 94 has implemented brand new trainings led by Sr. Staff Representatives Alexis Lyman and John Burns.  The trainings consist of three main programs designed to provide the information needed for members to increase participation, provide thorough and accurate representation when investigating and conducting the grievance procedure, and to provide the skills necessary for officers and leaders to strengthen their locals.  These programs do not need to be taken all at once and are free to all members.   

Members of Rhode Island Council 94 remain active in their communities throughout the State of Rhode Island.  This month’s spotlight is on members of Local 528 who work at the University of Rhode Island.  Over the past couple of years, the Local 528 Charity Committee has worked extremely hard to help those in need.  Each year, the Committee holds an annual food drive for the Johnny Cake Center of Peace Dale.  The members also raise several thousand dollars for the Johnny Cake Center of Peace Dale by raffling items at the URI holiday mini mall.  This event has grown from only a handful of mem
