Announcements

Federal money for programs and services that help millions of vulnerable Americans and employ many AFSCME members could be in jeopardy next year.

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand new Indigenous Veterans Memorial. Charles “Snow Bear” Smith, Jr.

Congratulations to Vicki Ansley on her retirement.

What have you been up to this summer? Down in Kingston, at the University of Rhode Island, Local 528 members working for the University of Rhode Island Lands and Grounds Department have spent a portion of summer installing irrigation on the main quadrangle. The project is a collaboration between Local 528 members and their supervisors within Lands and Grounds.

Congratulations to Neil Urlickson who retired from state service after 20 years working in property control and supply. Always an active member, for many years Neil chaired the election committee for local 528 and also helped run numerous contractor votes over the years. Congratulations to Neil. Here’s to a long happy and healthy retirement.
Council 94 would like to recognize Local 314 member Jackie Iasimone (Pictured below on the left), for her charitable work in putting together blankets for children impacted by the war in Ukraine. Sister Iasimone was able to rally the Rhode Island Training School community to her cause and received hundreds of dollars in donations as well as countless hours of volunteer work from family and friends.

RI Council 94's May 2022 Training is live and underway.

Brothers & Sisters,

At our March meeting, Local 528 asked for donations from the members that were in attendance. I am pleased to say that we were able to raise $158.00 that day for The Ronald McDonald House of Providence. Based on the Wish List posted on the Ronald McDonald House website, we were able to purchase 8 sets of full-sized sheets for the rooms of families that stay at the house to be close to their children while they are hospitalized or receiving treatments.
