Council 94 Involved in Central Falls Fiasco
On February 23, 2010, the Central Falls School Board of Trustees voted to terminate all the High School teachers per the recommendation of Superintendent Frances Gallo.
Unreported by the news media, about a dozen members of Local 1627, Council 94 also lost their jobs. These Teacher Assistants are some of the hardest working and dedicated employees in the Central Falls High School. Yet they were fired without cause.
The mass firing of unionized employees has touched off outrage in the community and focused national media attention on Central Falls and the Board of Trustees’ disregard of Local 1627's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Council 94 fully supports the teachers, teacher assistants and other staff in this struggle.
